How to Solve SharePoint Services 3 Error with Anonymous Account

Problem

You may find your system error logs are flooded with the similar errors as below: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

Solution

Depending on WSS (Windows SharePoint Services) installation and configuration, this error is likely caused by the account that using Windows SharePoint Services Timer. If your Windows SharePoint Services Timer is using “anonymous” account, you MOSS database can deny such access and you will find login failure errors for “NT Authority \ anonymous Logon” account.

You can change the account into “SharePointServices” Account. Restart the SharePoint Services Timer and you should see the same kind of errors no longer coming up.
